Biography

Since January 2018, Mr. Richard Dufresne has been President of George Weston Limited (GWL). In this role, Richard oversees the day-to-day operations and strategy for GWL, the parent company of a number of well-known and respected Canadian food and pharmacy retail organizations, including Loblaw Companies Limited, Shoppers Drug Mart, Weston Foods, as well as Choice Properties REIT.  

Prior to assuming his current role, Richard Dufresne was Chief Financial Officer of both Loblaw Companies Limited and George Weston Limited. In these roles, Richard led all aspects of finance, including investor relations, treasury, tax, audit, and business synergies.    

Richard is a highly respected leader in both retail and finance.  Prior to joining GWL in 2012, he was CFO at Metro Inc., and has experience in investment banking, mergers and acquisitions, equity, debt and other types of financing.  He holds an MBA from the University of Western Ontario’s Richard Ivey School of Business, and a B.Sc. in Actuarial Science from Laval University.
